I read some of the other threads on this and am not completely clear. Does this mean that I can wire the Pertronix Ignitor directly to the Pertronix coil? If I do this, do I just hook up the original wires from the harness the same as before? Is the Pertronix going to screw this up? If so, how do I get around it? I am trying to follow the wiring diagram in the ’69 Mustang Service Manual but have had little luck…. I assume it comes back? There is a three wire connector on the engine side of the fire wall with one wire that that goes to the coil the other wire in the points setup came from the distributor. While were talking wiring – I also have two strange single wire connectors both female – round in shape on the firewall and another on the main harness that ends at the relay. What the heck is this?
One Day to EFI: EZ EFI Conversion on a ’68 Camaro
We saw it in a truck one time and decided we had to have that in our own Chevy. If you can do some simple wiring and soldering, then you can make the conversion to your own dash. Four gauges are shown. The two on the left are short-sweep electric gauges.
Setting up the 6LS’s rev limiters is a snap; all you have to do is hook up the blue wire from the wiring harness to a 12v power source and wire in a button or switch. When ever the blue wire is receiving 12v, the RevLo setting will be activated.
As a result, they are easy to come by and relatively inexpensive. I picked the Chevrolet LS1 V8 because of it’s awesome output numbers, availability, reliability and personal testimony from a couple of my friends who have them. I knew it would be a little more challenging than swapping in an LT1 or earlier engine, but so what!
The outcome will be that much better. Here’s where it all happens! We do a variety of things including towing for the City of Pittsburgh, used parts sales, scrap processing, body work and late model vehicle sales. This is where I worked and learned everything I know about cars today! October 6th, – Here are a few shots of the car before we started working on it.
We bought it off of eBay from a very nice couple in Tennessee who had to sell it in the wake of passed family member. The car has 68, miles and maintenance records to prove it. At the time of the purchase, the engine was beyond any reasonable repair. A spark plug broke off and fell into the combustion chamber.

December 6th, at 9: I last stopped the engine when it was showing signs of gas deprivation, then cranks but no start. New fuel filter, verified that diesel is pumping out, new CPS, tried heater for a few hours January 7th, at 7:
Now connect up a 2nd tachometer that you know is correct, such as a racing tach, or a timing light with RPM readout, or a dwell/tach meter. Now start the car and run it a or RPM. Adjust the tach to read the same as the other RPM gauge.
May 18, , I did not like the idea of switching the gauges with the fuel tank selector. Seems like a recipe for running out of gas to me. For you aviation buffs, cf. So I mounted a second fuel gauge in the empty position. This position would take the clock, or, if you got a tach, it would take a small fuel gauge instead of the big honking one next to the speedometer.

Outboard Tachometer Applications Notes: a. RPM tachs are for Inboard & I/O gas engine applications only b. RPM & RPM tachs are for all.
Overlooking the basics will leave to frustration and unnecessary time and expense. The first thing to remember that the system needs to have power. Make sure the power connection to the distributor cap or the coil is good, no blown fuses, no broken, loose or corroded connections. A good 12V powered test light should always be one of the basic troubleshooting tools you need, along with a reasonable priced digital-volt-ohmmeter.
Use a DVOM for testing, calibrate meter scale some do automatically to read zero when the leads are touching each other. Do this before testing coil to insure greatest accuracy. If meter will not calibrate to read less than 0. This is the terminal for the coil-in-cap HEI ignition power. With the key turned on engine off , there should be full battery power here. If not, you will need to check for loose connections by tracing back the wire as far as you can.
Also check the fuse that protects the circuit from overload. If the fuse is blown, you will need to do further troubleshooting to find and correct the reason why the fuse blew.

Most 85 models do not have the feedback carburetors, all 86 models do. The feedback carburetors require feedback from the VSS behind the speedometer that you are not able to reuse. The big things to get from all of this are 1. Know the gauge cluster works otherwise it will cost a small fortune to fix it. Is it an 8-cylinder or 6-cylinder tachometer? Big truck like C ‘s and such tach dashes can be made to work in a pickup, but offer many of there own unique problems because of optional gauges that were available in them see above.
Also, all the years mentioned above do not follow suit on large trucks Before you go hunting, know this Most are advertised “untested” or “as is” for a good reason, and it’s most likely because they are bad. If you have anything around with the old points distributor, then the terminal marked COIL on the tachometer goes to the – side of the coil. The 12V terminal of the tachometer and GND terminal are self explanatory, you need any 12V power source and a ground.
If you do not have original wiring pigtail then a. Having a known good tach in the vehicle to compare it with is a real plus.

April 01, , You don’t change anything in the dash harness. The existing setup in a car with idiot lights has a temp line coming in already to the light, just need to take the light out of the circuit and run the temp line to the temp gage. Also change out the termperature sending unit to one for gages.

You can see by the inset that the old pinion gear was pretty badly chewed up. After some checking back and forth between the spare starter and what I had assembled, I had Wildflower’s starter back together and ready to install right. I set about getting it back in place. Thirty minutes later I was no closer to getting it in and was saying bad words. Yes, even worse than ‘Triumph’!
It took just the right angle to get the starter out, and I will have rediscover that angle to get it back in. I have cleaned up and am going to give it another shot later this week. It is one of a series of ‘favourite motor car stories’ published in , and tells teh story of a ‘Mr. Greyhair’ who has gotten too old to drive, and must pass his TC along to a collector.
Rather interestingly, the hero of the piece is a Model A Ford, while the villain is a modern Rolls. I think I was more offended that the drawing of ‘Mr.

A single wire from this relay ends in a splice near the top of the engine, from which eight wires branch out to the individual coils, through the primary windings of the coils and out into eight more wires that go to the ECM, which provides the ground path for each coil.
With the key on, current is flowing through the relay, the coils, and to the ground path provided by the PCM, energizing the primary windings inside the coils. This causes the energy built up in the primary windings to jump to the secondary windings, which are made with loops of much finer wire. The smaller diameter allows much more wire than that used to make the primary windings.
The result is a multiplying effect, as a system voltage of 12 to 14 volts increases to nearly 40, volts, or enough to jump the gap of the spark plug. The electronic ignition tach adapter reads the amount of current passing through the system as the engine is running and generates an analog signal readable by most aftermarket tachometers. That signal comes out on the grey wire.

The rear deck bow weather strip attaches with screws and staples. There are also two left and right short weatherstrips that bridge the gap between the top frame and the rear deck bow.

I am reading this as saying: You are happy with losing the ammeter as long as you get the tach feature. So, you intend to discard the printed circuit that came with the cluster pictured above, buy a new one applicable to your 76 with tach option and install it in the early model cluster. When that is all done, you are going to pull the ammeter from the cluster and replace it with your current voltmeter.

What will I have to swap on the engine? Thanks for any help! Things that affect oil pressure are the weight of the oil used, temperature of the engine, engine rpm, clearances in the oil pump, the screen on the oil pick up, pressure relief valve, cam and crank bearing clearances.
Just from the information you posted, it would seem your mechanic has made a logical call on replacing the engine or crank kit it. I am sorry that I don’t have any good news to give you. You could see the place where you bought the truck to see if they are willing to help you out. If it’s a used car dealer, see if they would take it back on a trade. Or try to sell it and buy another vehicle. Using an ohm meter, measure the resistance between the sender connector contact and the instrument cluster connector.
You would have to remove the cluster and unplug it The cluster connector should be A to Z on the connector with the dark green wire being R.
